Student
Behavior and the Housing Lottery
Residential Services, in collaboration with the Office of
Community Standards and Civility and the Alcohol Coalition,
created a program that affects upperclass student housing.
A student's individual lottery priority number is affected
by discipline points.
Each time a student is found responsible for violating a
policy, demerits are assigned to the student. The demerits
are then used in creating the student’s lottery priority
number. The lower the lottery numbers the better. Consequently,
every demerit number increases the lottery priority number,
giving the student a less desirable lottery number.
This policy is in effect February 1-January 31 for the upperclass
lottery held in late February or early March. Any earned demerits
after February 1, will affect the student’s following
academic year housing lottery priority number. Each year a
student’s demerit count is wiped clean and begins again—February
1 to January 31.
Demerit values can be found the
Office of Community Standards and Civility.
